Maille was away with Nana on a road trip to Sandpoint, ID and Omak, WA... so we made our own fun. We left Friday afternoon and found a great campsite right on Fish Creek. Coupla nice swimming holes, marshmallows and chocolate stuffed bananas on the coals, and a few cutthroat games of Uno with a soft set of rules.
We managed to pull one nice Westslope Cutthroat out of the hole right in front of camp, and did some swimming in the bigger, deeper hole just a short walk upstream. The thunderstorms Friday night skirted just past us, but close enough to hear thunder and see the odd flash.
Friday night we all slept horribly with the dogs in the tent and very unsettled - Scooter is somewhere north of 14 years old (no one really knows) and isn't thrilled about new spots - especially since her vision and hearing have greatly diminished. Saturday night we put the dogs in the truck camper and we all did much better!
Elias gifted us with a one-man improvised musical about the downtrodden (I'll admit I was compelled to augment a little bit here and there). Finn quietly and toughly endured most of the weekend with one shoe - including a long hike down the creek bed and a scamper up steep, shale slope. He and Wally both had sore foot pads that night. October kept us all smiling and happy, and continued with passing her firemaking skills to the boys.
