Bumper Crop of Morels

We went back this weekend for morels...
The picking has been great since the weather has stayed mild and with decent moisture...

Elias and his buddy, Declan, with a great haul

After getting back home, Elias invited some of the neighborhood tribe to his fire pit (old coffee can with some holes punched) to sample some of his foil-wrap-sauteed fresh morels in butter and smoked sea salt

He's now a culinary legend on September Drive.

Mother's Day Adventuring

We had great weather for a picnic and mushroom hunting in a prescribed fire from last fall.  It was a really nice to get out with our local moms and search the charred soil for the first morels of the year.  Even though the temps have been warmer (finally) the last week or so, the soil is still cool and the morels are just starting to show themselves.   We had to work for it, but ended up with about a gallon.  We'll prepare these fresh - maybe in a cream sauce to ladle over deer or elk steaks we've been saving.

Thanks to all the moms out there - especially our own:

Mom/Grammy Moynahan - We're so, so thankful for everything you've poured into our family, and we try to do our best to model your selflessness and generosity.  We try to emulate your instinct to smile freely and appreciate that the 'small things' are actually the big things.

Marilyn/Nana Montana - Your kindness and positivism are boundless... And both are so important to us as a model and for what they mean to your grandkids.  And you keep us guessing!

October - you're frickin' awesome.  Smart, patient, and fundamentally kind.

On to the photos!

This is what we're looking for...
